Be part of a dynamic development team responsible for the organization’s business-critical SCADA system operating 24/7 to keep the power perimeter balanced in Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The goal is to extend the geographical scope and integrate more smaller and very flexible assets.
We develop tools to support the real-time control of power plants, integrate flexibility assets, and comply with European grid codes to support the energy transition. Our tools are mainly used to:
- monitor the production assets, available capacities from our power plants
- provide information between TSOs and real-time SCADA system (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition);
- calculate the real-time setpoint to send to the powerplants to keep the balance of the perimeter - based on the production plan, real-time acquisition and other inputs (FCR, aFRR, mFRR):
- FCR: Frequency Containment Reserve
- aFRR: Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve
- mFRR: Manual Frequency Restoration Reserve
The application used to provide the services to our customers is Hitachi ABB MicroSCADA SYS600 version X (MicroSCADA X SYS600 | Hitachi Energy).
The backend development language within MicroSCADA is proprietary: SCIL (Supervisory Control Implementation Language) & the frontend is web based.
The application is web-based. The frontend development language within MicroSCADA is proprietary based HTML, CSS and Javascript.
As a developer, your role is to:
- Develop and maintain our SCADA X (Hitachi Energy MicroSCADA X) that keeps the organization’s power perimeter in balance.
- Work on both front-end and back-end development using SCIL, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Apply architectural design principles to build scalable, and robust solutions.
- Apply software craftsmanship principles (SOLID, DRY, KISS, YAGNI) to build clean, maintainable, and resilient code.
- Collaborate in an Agile/SAFe® environment with analysts, dispatchers, and technical teams.
- Contribute to on-call support (after onboarding) to ensure system availability and grid stability. (Our tools are business critical and are used 24/7)
Requested profile:
- You have a master's degree with a specialization in IT and/or electrical engineering (e.g., ingénieur civil, burgelijk ingenieur, industrial engineer, in software, electronics or electromecanics),
- You have at least 3 years of relevant experience,
- You have an industrial mindset combined with a high level of software engineering (good architecture, design patterns,…). Our systems have to be very stable. Any problem due to unavailability, bug or other, can have a big impact,
- You should understand the basics of the electricity production and the grid transport,
- You adopt a proactive and structured approach to your work, helping to minimize stress and ensure stability in a high-responsibility environment. You pay attention to designing resilient solutions that support 24/7 operations, and you remain available to provide support in case of critical issues (= interruption in your daily work),
- You are solution-driven and feel responsible for your tasks. When a problem occurs, you have to find a quick fix in no-time. Sustainable fix will be required in case quick fix is solely a workaround to allow operations to be pursued,
- You are motivated to work in a team that is responsible for real-time activities.
- You are team player in complex project organizations and interact easily with your peers, analysts, architects, business representatives, and other teams’ representatives,
- You are able to self-learn and take initiatives to improve our environment, our practices,
